Women’s Sheds are making a difference in communities across Ireland. Now we need the research to help demonstrate that impact.

Dr Megan Vine and researchers at the University of Limerick, working alongside a Community Advisory Board of Women’s Shed organisers, are carrying out important research exploring the impact, experiences and needs of Women’s Sheds and women’s groups across Ireland.

Women’s Sheds of Ireland strongly encourages sheds to get involved and have their voices heard.

Why Does This Research Matter?

Every week, we see the difference Women’s Sheds can make — creating friendships, reducing isolation, building confidence, supporting wellbeing and giving women opportunities to learn, participate and contribute within their communities.

But to advocate effectively for Women’s Sheds at a national level, we also need evidence.

Independent research can help build a clearer picture of the contribution Women’s Sheds are making, the challenges they face and the supports they need to continue growing sustainably.

This evidence can help inform future conversations with Government, funders, policymakers and organisations working to support women and communities across Ireland.

The more sheds and women who participate, the stronger and more representative that picture can become.
